Almost twice as hard as the best organics, Xylar 2 is an inorganic ceramic-metallic coating that sacrificially protects metals from corrosive salt environments and high temperature oxidation.Originally designed for aircraft and aerospace applications, Xylar 2 is a second-generation cermet, which provides a hard barrier coating that breaks the electrical path between dissimilar metal parts.

Description: A blend of ceramic materials and metal fillers (aluminum). When cured it becomes a ceramic/metallic coating (a "cermet") provide the aerospace and marine industries with materials to protect components from high temperature, oxidization, salt laden atmospheres, chemicals and abrasives. While it is not always practical to apply 2 mils, Xylar2 at this thickness has reached 10,000 hours in salt fog with minimal red rust.  And Xylar 2 will with standup to 1,100°F/600°C of continuous use.
Main Properties: Extreme temperature resistant. Abrasion / wear resistant. Corrosion resistant. Provides sacrificial anodic protection. Thermoset.
Typical Applications: Aerospace and marine industry components. Thermal barrier for automotive engine andexhaust components

Xylar 101 is a sealer/topcoat that enhances the corrosion resistance of Xylar 2. It is a dense, clear film that fills any surface pores on Xylar 2,and together they represent a breakthrough in
coating technology - a thin-film barrier with extreme corrosion resistance.

Xylar 2 is a porous ceramic  coating that is extremely hard and, with respect to
structural metals, is chemically sacrificial. Applied to ferrous, aluminum, or other metals, it is "sacrificed" to a corrosive medium before the substrate is attacked. Xylar 101 is a sealer/topcoat that closes any surface pores of Xylar 2. The 1 to 1.5 mil (0.0254 to 0.0381 mm) combination provides an incredible 4,000+ hours of protection in ASTM B117 salt fog tests!

Xylar 2 gives 300 to 400 hours of salt fog protection, or about 6,000 hours of protection when topcoated with Xylar 101. Recommended applications include pump impellers, turbine blades compressor housings, valve bodies, agitators, petrochemical reactor parts, paper machine components, exhaust stacks, marine hardware, equipment used in photo processing, or other parts that need thin film protection - at temperatures all the way up to 1,200°F/650°C.

FAQ'S
1.What is Xylan?

Xylan is a family of fluoropolymer coatings designed by Whitford to provide corrosion protection, lubrication, wear resistance and non-stick properties in a variety industries and applications.  it have below benefits
Anti-Rust. In a ASTM B-117 Salt Spray test the coating remains resistant up to 3900 hours before red rust occurs.
Sustainability. As we are working towards a circular economy, PTFE coated fasteners are more sustainable then regular bolts due to their longer durability.
Lower maintenance costs. Longer durability of bolts does not only result in more sustainability but also lower maintenance costs.
Low torque friction coefficient. Due to the TEF-LON top layer, torque friction is low.
Added value. Using colored bolts into the colored frame work, valve, flange or heat exchanger gives your product extra added value.

3 How do you apply Xylan Coating?
STEP ONE: Applying a base-coat such as Phosphate, Zinc, Zinc-Nickel, Hot Dip Galvanized or Xylar 1. The base coat has an average thickness of 10-15µ (except for HDG).
STEP TWO: Glass-shot blasting to roughen the surface of the fasteners to be coated.
STEP THREE: Having fasteners coated with PTFE Xylan 1070 or Xylan 1424 in the required color. See the table below for the top coat most suited to for your situation.
STEP FOUR: Heat treatment of the coated fasteners is performed.
4.Is Xylan the same as Te-flon?
No. Xylan and Te-flon are both brands of PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) coatings. Although some Xylan and Te-flon products may have similar properties, it is important not to assume they will do the same job as there are variations of each product which are suitable for different applications and environments.

5.Is Xylan suitable for fasteners?
Yes. Amongst the Xylan range are a series of fastener-class coating systems designed to improve the performance and longevity of all types, sizes and grades of fasteners through its excellent corrosion resistant and low-friction properties. Xylan can be applied via dip-spin and spray methods, meaning it is suitable for small screws right through to large stud bolts.

6.What is Xylan Blue?
Xylan actually comes in a wide range of colours but is often referred to as "Xylan Blue" or "PTFE Blue" in reference to coating B7 Stud Bolts and Nuts for the Petrochemical industry. Generally, the product required will be Xylan 1424 or Xylan 1070 however its always best to clarify with the end user or consult technical advice direct from Whitford or your preferred applicator to confirm.

7.What are the addtional coating type you can  supply?
Zinc + Fluorocarbon / PTFE
Cadmium + Fluorocarbon /PTFE
Zinc Nickel + Fluorocarbon /PTFE
Zinc Plating + Xylan 1424 Blue
Xylar 2 + Xylan 1070 Blue
Xylar 2 + xylar 101 coated stud bolt

8.How to order the fluorocarbon coated stud bolts?
