Understanding 2H Heavy Nuts:
What are 2H Heavy Nuts? 2H heavy nuts, also known as ASTM A194 Grade 2H nuts, are high-strength nuts made from carbon steel. They are designed to be used in conjunction with ASTM A193 Grade B7 bolts, forming a powerful bolt and nut assembly. These nuts possess exceptional strength and are typically used in applications where high-pressure and high-temperature conditions are encountered.
Characteristics of 2H Heavy Nuts:
Applications of 2H Heavy Nuts:
Construction Industry: The construction industry often requires robust fasteners to secure structural components. 2H heavy nuts, when paired with ASTM A193 Grade B7 bolts, provide a reliable fastening solution for critical applications, including bridges, high-rise buildings, and industrial infrastructure.
Petrochemical and Energy Sectors: In environments where extreme temperatures and pressures are present, such as oil refineries and power plants, 2H heavy nuts are extensively used. Their high-strength properties make them suitable for critical connections in pipelines, heat exchangers, boilers, and other equipment.
Heavy Machinery and Equipment: 2H heavy nuts find applications in heavy machinery and equipment, such as mining machinery, turbines, compressors, and pumps. These nuts ensure secure and reliable connections, even under heavy loads and vibrations.
Advantages of 2H Heavy Nuts:
High Strength and Reliability: The primary advantage of 2H heavy nuts is their exceptional strength, offering reliable fastening and resistance to deformation. This strength is crucial in applications where the failure of a fastener can lead to catastrophic consequences.
Compatibility with Grade B7 Bolts: 2H heavy nuts are specifically designed to be used with ASTM A193 Grade B7 bolts. This compatibility ensures a reliable and efficient bolted connection that can withstand demanding conditions.
Versatility: 2H heavy nuts are available in various sizes, allowing for versatility in application. They can be easily integrated into different projects, accommodating different bolt sizes and requirements.
Conclusion:
In the world of mechanical engineering, 2H heavy nuts play a vital role in ensuring secure connections and structural integrity. With their exceptional strength, corrosion resistance, and compatibility with Grade B7 bolts, these nuts are widely used in construction, petrochemical, energy, and heavy machinery sectors. When working on projects that demand robust fastening solutions, considering the use of 2H heavy nuts is essential for reliable and long-lasting connections.

FAQ'S
1.What is Xylan?
Xylan is a family of fluoropolymer coatings designed by Whitford to provide corrosion protection, lubrication, wear resistance and non-stick properties in a variety industries and applications. it have below benefits
Anti-Rust. In a ASTM B-117 Salt Spray test the coating remains resistant up to 3900 hours before red rust occurs.
Sustainability. As we are working towards a circular economy, PTFE coated fasteners are more sustainable then regular bolts due to their longer durability.
Lower maintenance costs. Longer durability of bolts does not only result in more sustainability but also lower maintenance costs.
Low torque friction coefficient. Due to the TEF-LON top layer, torque friction is low.
Added value. Using colored bolts into the colored frame work, valve, flange or heat exchanger gives your product extra added value.
3 How do you apply Xylan Coating?
STEP ONE: Applying a base-coat such as Phosphate, Zinc, Zinc-Nickel, Hot Dip Galvanized or Xylar 1. The base coat has an average thickness of 10-15µ (except for HDG).
STEP TWO: Glass-shot blasting to roughen the surface of the fasteners to be coated.
STEP THREE: Having fasteners coated with PTFE Xylan 1070 or Xylan 1424 in the required color. See the table below for the top coat most suited to for your situation.
STEP FOUR: Heat treatment of the coated fasteners is performed.
4.Is Xylan the same as Te-flon?
No. Xylan and Te-flon are both brands of PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) coatings. Although some Xylan and Te-flon products may have similar properties, it is important not to assume they will do the same job as there are variations of each product which are suitable for different applications and environments.
5.Is Xylan suitable for fasteners?
Yes. Amongst the Xylan range are a series of fastener-class coating systems designed to improve the performance and longevity of all types, sizes and grades of fasteners through its excellent corrosion resistant and low-friction properties. Xylan can be applied via dip-spin and spray methods, meaning it is suitable for small screws right through to large stud bolts.
6.What is Xylan Blue?
Xylan actually comes in a wide range of colours but is often referred to as "Xylan Blue" or "PTFE Blue" in reference to coating B7 Stud Bolts and Nuts for the Petrochemical industry. Generally, the product required will be Xylan 1424 or Xylan 1070 however its always best to clarify with the end user or consult technical advice direct from Whitford or your preferred applicator to confirm.
7.What are the addtional coating type you can supply?
Zinc + Fluorocarbon / PTFE
Cadmium + Fluorocarbon /PTFE
Zinc Nickel + Fluorocarbon /PTFE
Zinc Plating + Xylan 1424 Blue
Xylar 2 + Xylan 1070 Blue
Xylar 2 + xylar 101 coated stud bolt
