316 stainless steel pipe is a hollow long round steel, including SS 316 seamless pipe and stainless steel 316 welded pipe. Type 316 is austenitic stainless steel, containing 2%-3% molybdenum and 10%-14% nickel. The SS 316 pipe we produce complies with ASTM A312/ASME SA312 material standards. There is not much difference between 304 stainless steel pipes and ASME SA312 UNS S31600 pipes in terms of chemical corrosion resistance. Under certain circumstances, 304 stainless steel pipes are sensitive to pitting corrosion, and an additional 2%-3% of molybdenum can reduce this sensitivity, thus the stainless steel SUS 316 pipe was born. So 316 is an improved version of 304 with a slightly higher nickel content due to the addition of molybdenum. DIN 1.4401 stainless steel pipes offer higher corrosion resistance in many aggressive environments and molybdenum makes SS DIN 1.4436 pipes more resistant to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride contaminated media, sea water and acetic acid vapor. The low overall corrosion rate in mildly corrosive environments makes steel have good atmospheric corrosion resistance in polluted marine atmospheres.
