317L stainless steel pipe material is a low carbon austenitic stainless steel containing molybdenum. ASTM A312 TP317L pipe has more chromium, nickel and molybdenum added for better corrosion resistance and enhanced chemical resistance to sulfurous acid, acetic acid, formic acid, citric acid and tartaric acid. Due to the low carbon content of ASME SA312 UNS S31703 pipes, it has high resistance to intergranular corrosion. SS 317L ERW pipe is also resistant to sensitization when welded and has higher creep, fracture stress and tensile strength at elevated temperatures. 317L stainless steel pipe has excellent oxidation resistance and exhibits low fouling rates in ordinary atmospheres at temperatures up to 1600-1650°F (871-899°C). SS 317L SCH 40 pipe is non-magnetic in the annealed condition but may become slightly magnetic after welding.

317L Stainless Steel Pipes Vs 304L / 316L Stainless Steel Pipes
DIN 1.4438 stainless steel pipes alloy is similar in composition to 316L and 304L and is an austenitic molybdenum, chromium, nickel stainless steel alloy. Due to its higher molybdenum content, 317L provides increased resistance to pitting and stress corrosion cracking, especially in chloride or halide-rich environments. 317l stainless steel pipe has higher creep strength, breaking stress and tensile strength than its 316L and 304L counterparts, making it an excellent solution for demanding applications in offshore, pulp and paper mills, and chemical processing plants.
