PTFE Xylan Coated Stud Bolts and Nuts ASTM A193 B7Stud Bolt and Nuts

A193 B7 Stud Bolt is a bolt with threads on both ends that designed to be screwed into a fixed part at one end, and to receive a nut on the other end. In Petroleum or Chemical industry, they are prominently used for flange connection, so stud bolt used with two nuts on either side is the most common combination which replaces bolt and nut assembly.

PTFE Xylan Coated Stud Bolts and Nuts ASTM A193 B7
B7 Stud Bolt, Teflo-n

ASTM A193 Grade B7 stud bolts are high strength fasteners manufactured from a chromium-molybdenum steel and are quenched and tempered. Dimensional specifications are governed by ASME B18.31.2. Grade markings consists of both the grade symbol "B7″ and the manufacturer's identification mark on one end of each stud 3/8″ diameter and larger. Manufacturer's marking may be placed on other end if insufficient space. Inch series fasteners meeting ASTM A193 Grade B7 specifications are typically used in flange bolting applications. ASTM A193 covers the requirements for high temperature and high pressure bolting. A193 B7 all thread studs, as well as hex bolts having diameters above 1" are most common in 8UN (8 threads per inch) thread pitch. PTFE coating (commonly referred to as Teflo-n) is formulated with superior characteristics for maximum fastener life. Technical components include a tensile strength of up to 4,000 psi and an operating pressure up to 100,000 psi. The absence of nut locking oxides enable easy and safe removal. PTFE coatings have extreme chemical resistance and are ideal for applications including insulating piping, boiler rooms, water filled piping, water lines and more.

3.How do you apply Xylan Coating?

STEP ONE: Applying a base-coat such as Phosphate, Zinc, Zinc-Nickel, Hot Dip Galvanized or Xylar 1. The base coat has an average thickness of 10-15µ (except for HDG).
STEP TWO: Glass-shot blasting to roughen the surface of the fasteners to be coated.
STEP THREE: Having fasteners coated with PTFE Xylan 1070 or Xylan 1424 in the required color. See the table below for the top coat most suited to for your situation.
STEP FOUR: Heat treatment of the coated fasteners is performed.

4.Is Xylan the same as Te-flon?

No. Xylan and Te-flon are both brands of PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) coatings. Although some Xylan and Te-flon products may have similar properties, it is important not to assume they will do the same job as there are variations of each product which are suitable for different applications and environments.

5.Is Xylan suitable for fasteners?

Yes. Amongst the Xylan range are a series of fastener-class coating systems designed to improve the performance and longevity of all types, sizes and grades of fasteners through its excellent corrosion resistant and low-friction properties. Xylan can be applied via dip-spin and spray methods, meaning it is suitable for small screws right through to large stud bolts.

6.What is Xylan Blue?

Xylan actually comes in a wide range of colours but is often referred to as "Xylan Blue" or "PTFE Blue" in reference to coating B7 Stud Bolts and Nuts for the Petrochemical industry. Generally, the product required will be Xylan 1424 or Xylan 1070 however its always best to clarify with the end user or consult technical advice direct from Whitford or your preferred applicator to confirm.

7.What are the addtional coating type you can  supply?
